Introducing the “New” Advertising Self-Regulation Program
In 1912, a Better Business Bureau first opened in Minnesota, as a vigilance committee focusing on misleading advertising. Advertising review is a focal point of the Better Business Bureau's mission. We believe that businesses should regulate their own advertising efforts, using ethics and truth in advertising as their guiding principles. We are happy to help provide them the resources and education they need to do just that.
Ad Review is a new program offered by the Better Business Bureau to help identify cases of misleading, deceptive, or untruthful advertising appearing in the media throughout B.C. How does it work? Each week, the BBB reviews numerous sources of advertisements (newspapers, television, Internet, and radio) to be sure advertisers are in compliance with the BBB Code of Advertising. We also receive complaints of unfair ads from both competitors and consumers.
If you want to file a complaint, click here, or email us at adreview@bbbvan.org. We will review all complaints and, if within our purview, contact the advertiser and ask for substantiation, modification or discontinuation of the advertisement, so that it meets the ethical standards of the Bureau.
We provide many services to members and non-members to assist them in providing their customers with truthful and honest advertising. To learn more about BBB Ad Review Program and the Code of Advertising, click on the links below.
